Langhe Favorita
Controlled Designation of Origin
Why we do it
The Favorita wine was made by our elders, who chose the right land and a good exposure. We do it because we like this fresh wine with a sweet scent. And because we put a pinch of stubborness in wanting to preserve a secular vine which today is struggling with flavescence dorée and a lazy market, which does not like to discover new things.
Where we do it
Bricco Camestrì is a hill that believes to be a sea; the land is more close to fine sand, to the point that children when they accompany us have fun finding shells and fossils. It is not surprising that the Favorita grape variety, which is called Vermentino at the sea and came to the Roero from the Via del Sale, has a pleasant time here. This beautiful hill contains a bit of countryside, a bit of sea and even a bit of garden: to keep the vines company we planted the roses, which warn us in time if the dreaded powdery mildew arrives.
How we do it
Centuries have passed since Favorita’s first vine shoots arrived in our land. These vines make Roero the landscape we are used to know; they are at home, like the families of roe deer that run on Bricco Camestrì. This is why we continue to cultivate them, even if it means taking special care of them, monitoring them, taking into account losses.
How to drink it
La Favorita is first grape than wine: the large sweet grapes are excellent with gorgonzola cheese. During small moments of pleasure and joy, when you nibble something delicious at the aperitif or indulge in a good fruit dessert, a glass of Favorita can keep you good company. The rich and sweet scent of linden and acacia together with the freshness that remains on the palate can in fact play just as well with sweet and savoury, but still lively tastes.
