Roero Arneis
Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin
Why we do it
If you consider our land as anything but easy, the Arneis grape variety seems specially made to stay here. A robust vine that is not afraid of poor terrain and merciless slopes. In fact, it has been here for centuries, and has made the Roero’s wealth. To put this wine in the bottle is to give a future to a story that lose itslef generation after generation.
Where we do it
Vigna Camestrì is Roero and is home. It is where our ciabòt is and we can spend together a few moments of relax in the middle of the vineyard. It is where our families meet, such as the families of roe deers that occasionally take a walk among the rows; where our elders have planted the Arneis, choosing the lowest part of the ”bricco” hill: so the grapes do not receive too much sunshine and the wine maintains a pleasant freshness.
How we do it
In the hundreds of years that the vine has been part of the Roero landscape, Arneis has been many things: table wine, mass wine, sweet wine, even vermouth. From the time of the “patrunet” the arneis grapes become a dry white, which however has not lost an original character and which is carried behind the scents of the hills on which it ripens.
How to drink it
Arneis is like a good friend, perhaps a bit lively and extroverted. It likes to stand out, but his company is always pleasant. A real arneis, arneis, as we say in Piedmont. A wine such this one is at ease among the thousand appetizers typical of the festive tables of Piedmont; the rich aroma, of bread crust and hazelnuts, is perfect together with appetizers for the aperitif. The slight acidity, the freshness that leaves in the mouth and the pleasant aftertaste of almonds can cheer up the delicate seconds, those of fish or white meat.
